Defense minister: Iran to build new warplane

Tehran, Feb 20, IRNA -- Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Iran has numerous programs underway to build warplanes and military aircraft.
Talking in the opening of the 11th Aerospace Conference here on Monday, he stressed that Iran enjoyed high capabilities in building both warplanes and non-military aircraft.
He also said that Iran enjoyed one of the biggest repair centers for engines of civilian and army planes.
According to the minister, “Iran-140” aircraft is one of Iran’s most outstanding achievements in aerospace technology.
As for missile activities, he said Iran was among 10 top world countries active in the area.
Vahidi stressed that the missiles produced by Iran were absolutely based on domestic technologies and expertise.
The defense minister further noted that Iran ranked eighth in the world in terms of building satellite carriers.
