IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Feb 20, IRNA -- Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said the current visit of the International Atomic Energy Agency delegation to Tehran comes as a result of past agreements.

Making the remark in the sidelines of a national gathering on Iran and the Economic Cooperation Organization here on Monday, he said last month the delegation held talks with Iranian officials for three days.

Asked abouth the mediation of the Omani king between Iran and the US, he said there was no need for such issues because Iran and Oman enjoyed very good and special ties.

He said the Omani king lobbies with Iranian officials on the fate of those who had illegally entered Iran were effective.

The foreign minister stressed that national and international situations demanded that Iran constantly kept in touch with such friendly and brotherly countries as Oman.

On relations with Europe, he said Iran gives priority to ties with its neighboring countries but it also attaches importance to relations with Europe. He said Iran has not received favorable signals yet.

Noting that Iran would be one of the biggest neighbors of the European Union once Turkey joins the union, he stressed that Iran is a trustworthy partner for the Europe.

Salehi advised European countries not to lose the chance of improving ties with Iran.
