IAEA experts heading to Tehran

Vienna, Feb 19, IRNA -- A delegation comprising of senior inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headed by Herman Nackarets departed IAEA headquarters in Vienna for Tehran late Sunday.

Nackarets, IAEA deputy director general, before boarding the plane in Vienna International Airport expressed hope that he and his accompanying delegation will have a constructive visit to Tehran.

Nackarets is heading a five-member delegation comprising IAEA experts who will pay a two-day visit to Iran.

IAEA official expressed hope that that during their visits to Iranian nuclear sites they will achieve palpable results.

However, he noted that resolving Iran's nuclear case needs time due to the fact that it is a complicated issue.

IAEA's high-ranking official had visited Iran about three weeks ago. Nackarets after the visit of his team of nuclear experts to Tehran had said that Iranian officials and IAEA inspectors had agreed on resolving the pending issues concerning Iran's nuclear issue.

'Iran and IAEA are committed to resolve the remaining issues, while during three days of intensive negotiations in Tehran, the two sides also agreed on all priorities of both sides,' IAEA deputy had said after returning to Vienna at the end of this visit to Tehran about three weeks ago.

In a statement, IAEA has announced that the next meeting between Iranian and IAEA experts will be held on February 20-21.

According to IAEA's statement, the IAEA team of experts had discussed the first steps to be taken in the negotiations during their first visit to Iran.

IAEA Director General Yukio Amano has also emphasized on continuation of talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Speaking at IAEA headquarters in Vienna, the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon underlined that Iran's nuclear issue should be resolved through peaceful means.
