TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian Deputy Nuclear Negotiator Ali Bagheri said the first home-built nuclear fuel rods are to be placed into Tehran research reactor on Wednesday.
"We have started enriching uranium to 20 percent to build nuclear fuel rods since western countries are reluctant to provide us with assistance," Bagheri told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
"The rods are the first ones produced by Iranian scientists and they will be placed into Tehran research reactor in presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday," he added.
Experts believe that insertion of indigenous nuclear fuel rods is a giant step in Iranian nuclear program.
Bagheri also reiterated that Fordo nuclear site working under the IAEA supervision was entered into operational phase.
Also regarding Iran's response to the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton, he said the letter involves offers for agenda of new talks with western powers on Iranian nuclear issue and date and venue of the talks would be sent Tuesday or Monday.
Iran has set no pre-condition for talks, he added.
