Iran is ready to talk with 5+1 Group: Khazaee

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

New York, Feb 12, IRNA -- Islamic Republic of Iran's ambassador to UN, Mohammad Khazaee said that the Iranian government is ready to hold serious talks with the 5+1 Group, but it will never negotiate its righteous rights.

Khazaee made the remarks in an interview with the US-based radio station, NPR on Sunday.

'Those who suppose that the Islamic Republic of Iran will change its rational and principled behavior are badly mistaken. The Iranian nation has never compromised on its inalienable rights throughout the history,' Khazaee added.

Islamic republic of Iran and 5+1 Group (five permanent members of the United nations Security Council plus Germany) have agreed to hold another round of talks probably in Turkey.

Iran and 5+1 Group held two rounds of multifaceted talks in Geneva in December 2010 and in Istanbul, Turkey last January.

“Iran considers Israel as the prime suspect in the field of possessing nuclear weapons and not abiding by the non-proliferation treaties (NPT). The international community should exert pressure on the Zionist regime to join the NPT,' Khazaee added while emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran is not pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program and that Iran is merely pursuing a civilian nuclear program.

Asked about the remarks by Israeli officials concerning Iran's nuclear program, he said that the Zionist regime is not in a position to comment on Iran's nuclear program.

'Israel has a long track record in criminal acts against the people of the world and also in assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists, hence it should be considered as a cancerous tumor in the Middle East region,' Khazaee added.

Asked about Israel's probable plans for launching military attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Iranian diplomat pointed out that it does not seem that the Zionist regime will be able to attack Iran or Iran's nuclear site because Iran is very powerful and it can defend itself.

'If they dare to attack Iran, very dreadful consequences will be awaiting the Zionist regime and those who support it,' Khazaee further said.

He pointed out that the strategy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is based on non-aggression against other countries as Iranian authorities have always reiterated on such strategy over past thirty years.

However, if Iran's nuclear sites and Iran's interests in general will be attacked, Iran like any other country will defend itself with full force.
