TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian ambassador to Bulgaria Gholamreza Bagheri-Moghaddam said European Union has no choice, but changing its tone towards the country.
Bagheri-Moghadam noted the only solution for Iran's nuclear issue is holding serious talks and that imposing sanctions against Iran would not resolve the issue.
Moghadam told Bulgarian Darik Radio that EU lacks interactive policy and its approach is only criticizing.
He added using "language of cruelty and oppression" toward a country with thousands years of culture would result in defeat.
He called for EU to revise its policy towards Iran and act based on modern know-how and appropriate culture, stressing the sanctions would not only overshadow Iran, but also the whole European nations.
The envoy added Iran is an IAEA member state and its activities are carried out based on the agency's regulations. The country only seeks peaceful purposes for use of nuclear energy.
He referred to last-week rally in Bulgaria to protest against EU imposing sanctions against Iran, stressing, "We are not willing to make nuclear weapons. We as a NPT member cooperate with the IAEA. The agency's experts have traveled to Iran and visited the country's nuclear facilities."
Asked about Iran's threat to close the Strait of Hormuz, he noted the region is a strategic one and its security is important for Iran and the whole world. "We are determined to maintain security and stability inside the region and that the presence of foreign forces would be a threat to the region."
