TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said the country is the "key factor" in providing security of the Strait of Hormuz.
Asked about possibility of blocking the Strait of Hormuz by Iran as discussed by some news agencies, he said, "We have not said that we will block the Strait of Hormuz, but the issue is that if anybody wants to put the security of the area in danger, there will be a danger for all."
Also regarding rescue of 13 Iranian fishermen by the U.S. forces from Somali pirates, Vahidi said the Islamic Republic of Iran's Foreign Ministry has declared Iran's stance in this regard.
"We do not reject any good action, but this issue does not confirm the legitimacy of their presence inside the region."
As to the UK warships sent to Persian Gulf, he said it is not an important deal.
