TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Wednesday Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is to hold drill soon.

On Saturday, December 24, Iran's Navy staged a massive 10-day naval exercise, covering an area stretching from the east of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Aden.

Vahidi also added the security of the Strait of Hormuz has been always pursued by Iran and the country has managed to keep security of the area.

"Iran is the most important power in the region, playing a significant role in protecting security of the area. Off course, the enemy runs smear campaigns on the issue to exaggeration on Iran's measures. It also seeks selling its weapons to regional countries," he said.

Over the past years, Iran has gained considerable progresses in defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in manufacturing key military equipment and systems.

The country has repeatedly announced that its military might is merely based on defense doctrine and deterrence of any attack and poses no threat to other countries.
