TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran began the third stage of naval maneuver codenamed "Phase of Power" Saturday in southern Strait of Hormuz.

Firing long and short range of missiles including coast-to-sea, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air ones by floating units, launching torpedo by Iranian Navy submarines and firing missiles by shoulder launchers are some scheduled programs to be completed in the stage.

Also tactical phase of “Velayate 90” naval exercise included Iranian forces and hypothetical enemy and aimed to prepare the forces for the new combat ended Friday night.

The third stage would continue up to January 2.

On Saturday, December 24, Iran's Navy launched a massive 10-day naval exercise, covering an area stretching from the east of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Aden.

Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

The country has repeatedly clarified that its military might is merely based on the nation's defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries.
