TEHRAN (ISNA)-The Head of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran's Parliament Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Iran’s invitation for the IAEA inspectors shows the country’s nuclear activities are peaceful and are under the framework of the IAEA and NPT regulations.
Boroujerdi referred to the U.S. ambassador to the UN Susan Rice’s request from the UN Security Council to tighten the sanctions against Iran, calling the threats ineffective on Iran’s policies.
He stressed Iran’s nuclear activities have been carried out under the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) regulations and noted the U.S. envoy to the UN has taken a position which follows the same previous strategies that have failed to overshadow Iran’s policies.
The lawmaker pointed out Iran’s invitation for the IAEA inspectors shows the country is sure that its nuclear activities are peaceful.
The U.S. ambassador Susan Rice urged the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday to redouble efforts to implement sanctions against Iran, claiming tougher action could slow the country's nuclear program.
Iran is subject to four rounds of U.N. sanctions over its refusal to halt peaceful nuclear work.
