Russia: Sanctions, pressures on Iran not a right solution
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Moscow, Dec 16, IRNA -- Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich says Moscow believes piling up pressure and sanctions on Iran is not the right solution to settle the country’s nuclear case, leading any possibility for talks on the issue to a standstill.
Lukashevich told IRNA that categorically, Iran’s nuclear program was discussed in the Russia-EU summit in Brussels as a regional issue.
He said moreover, Iran issue will be discussed in the G5+1 meeting, chaired by Baroness Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
It’s fully clear that Moscow had in the Brussels summit underlined its principled stances on Iran nuclear issue, that is the necessity to follow up the negotiation and dialogue approach and avoiding unilateral pressures and sanctions on the country. “As before, Russia wants prompt resumption of Tehran’s talks with the G5+1 over its nuclear issue, not accepting unilateral sanctions of the European Union. Evidently, sanctions against Iran would lead all efforts aiming at finding a political-diplomatic solution over Iran nuclear program to deadlock.”
