TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said closing the Strait of Hormuz is not on Iran’s agenda.
Mehmanparast noted threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran are just "war of nerves" and added, “The U.S. and Zionist regime are just trying to create bellicose climate inside the region through different threats.”
As to the question on Iran’s capability on closing the Strait of Hormuz as a deterrent leverage before the threats against Iran, Mehmanparast said, “Iran has already announced that closing the Strait of Hormuz is not on its agenda since we believe peace and stability should be established in the region and that all regional countries should make their best efforts in this regard.”
He noted that the U.S. and Zionist regime might put military actions on their agenda in an unreasonable and irrational way and added, “Everything would be involved in war if bellicose climate dominates the region.”
"Western countries particularly the U.S. and Zionist regime do not possess the capability of carrying out military operation in the region. Such action would cost a fortune to them,” he told al-Alam News Channel.
As to Iran’s position on international threats and developments, he continued, “Iran’s official position would be announced only by political and official authorities.”
Considering Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi’s visit to Saudi Arabia, Mehmanparast noted, “Regional situation requires the influential countries’ talks and discussions.”
“Examining misunderstandings between Iran and Saudi Arabia is one of the issues discussed in the trip,” the ministry spokesman noted.
Mehmanparast referred to some scenarios brought forth by the enemies of Islam against Iran and regional countries and stressed, “Raising such scenarios serves Zionist regime’s interests and that proper actions should be taken in confronting such threats and plots.”
