TEHEAN (ISNA)-The draft resolution on nuclear disarmament proposed by Iranian mission in the UN was approved in the General Assembly recent meeting.
The draft was passed as it received 118 votes despite objections of the US, Zionist regime and some western states.
The resolution focused on pursuit of accepted commitments under the framework of nuclear review conferences of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) member states in 1995, 2000 and 2010 and presented by Iran for the 4th time over last 8 years.
52 countries said no to the draft resolution and 6 countries refused to vote.
The resolution calls for countries with nuclear weapons to speed up their commitments on annihilation of nuclear arsenals based on principles of transparency, irrevocableness and international monitoring.
According to the NPT, which has become binding since 1970, all states with nuclear weapons have been committed to destroy their atomic weapons and legally they should prevent construction of nuclear weapons, transfer of the arms to other countries, deployment of the weapons inside their soil and cooperation with other countries for building nuclear weapons.
The proposed draft resolution reiterates giving security guarantees to non-nuclear countries that nuclear weapons would not be used as a threat against other countries.
