Iran releases students arrested for British Embassy attack - media

RIA Novosti

16:39 01/12/2011 MOSCOW, December 1 (RIA Novosti) - Iran’s law enforcement agencies have released eleven students detained for attacking the British Embassy in Tehran, Iranian media reported on Thursday.

Dozens of Iranian protesters stormed the British Embassy in Tehran on Tuesday after rallying against sanctions the U.K. imposed on Iran earlier in November. The crowd, mostly students, tore down the British flag and replaced it with Iran's. They also ransacked the compound.

The attack was part of a larger demonstration that followed a decision by the Iranian authorities to expel the British ambassador from the country within 15 days.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Wednesday ordered all Iranian diplomats out of the U.K.

Britain evacuated all its diplomats from Iran on Wednesday.
