Basij commander supports Majlis decision on downgrading ties with UK

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Dec 1, IRNA -- Commander of Iran’s Basij (Volunteer) force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi supported Thursday the recent decision of Iran’s parliament to lower the diplomatic ties with Britain.

Speaking to reporters in the northeastern city of Bojnord in North Khorassan province, the commander said the decision was made in line with the will of the Iranian nation who were tired of decades of London’s plots against Tehran.

Iran’s Majlis ratified on Sunday (November 27) a two-star bill to downgrade the political and economic ties with Britain.

The bill came in response to a recent decision by the British government to impose sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran (Bank Markazi).

It gives the Iranian Foreign Ministry two weeks to downgrade the political ties with the UK to the level of charge d’ affaires.

The bill also requires that the level of economic and trade ties with Britain be dropped to minimum.
The bill also wants the Foreign Ministry to adopt similar positions against any other countries which might follow the same policies as the UK adopted towards Iran.

It also noted that Iran regarded the UK as a major element behind anti-Iran human rights resolutions, barring Iran from gaining access to its inalienable peaceful nuclear rights, excluding the terrorist Mojahedeen-e Khalq Organization (MKO) from the list of terrorist groups and assisting Saddam Hussein during the Iraqi imposed war against Iran.
