Iranian Navy to hold naval drill in high seas soon

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian Navy is to hold naval drill in high seas beyond Mediterranean Sea soon, said Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari on Saturday.

According to Sayyari, the naval drill dubbed "Velayate 90" would include a larger area comparing to its previous practices and would involve Oman Sea and northern Indian Ocean as well.

He also added Iranian Navy plans to boost its presence in high seas comparing to last year and it expand its presence beyond Mediterranean Sea.

Sayyari highlighting the navy's increasing capabilities in building surface-to-sea missiles and electronic warfare, said, "The country has built 3 submarines of Ghadir class. The Navy's surface-to-sea missile capability has been grown considerably. We will use the missiles whenever necessary."

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari continued, "Our capability in electronic warfare has been promoted. We can identify and locate any craft unit moving across Oman Sea and northern Indian Ocean."

He continued the Navy's most important submarine stimulator in Taregh class was launched. "The stimulator possesses special features and is superior comparing to its foreign versions."
