China opposes anti-Iran unilateral sanctions

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Beijing, Nov 23, IRNA -- The Chinese government on Wednesday announced that it opposes imposition of unilateral sanctions against Iran.

Talking to reporters, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Weimin stressed that Beijing is always against unilateral sanctions against Tehran, days after several western countries announced new measures to halt Iran's nuclear peaceful program.

He added that such sanctions will not settle the Iranian nuclear issue but rather will complicate the situation.

Criticizing US unilateral sanctions against Iran, he said China has repeatedly announced that imposing sanctions would not settle international issues.

'Intensifying confrontation is not beneficial to the peace and stability of the region,' Liu said.
