Iranís foreign policy focuses on regional peace, security : Salehi

Tehran, Oct 12, IRNA -- Supporting regional peace and security is an important part of Iran foreign policy, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Wednesday.

Speaking in a meeting with Mostafa Ismail, the senior advisor to Sudan's president, he noted that Iran is willing to develop relations with regional countries based on mutual respect and collective cooperation.

Salehi emphasized expansion of relations between Tehran and the African countries including the Khartoum government.

Sudanese official for his part expressed Sudanese government desire for expansion of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“Iran has an important role in the establishment of peace and security in the region,” he added.

Salehi and Ismail discussed the latest developments of North Africa and Middle East, regarding the ongoing Islamic awakening movements.

Sudan has strengthened its relationship with the Islamic Republic since the end of the 1980s. Iran and Sudan have enhanced cooperation on economic, political and security areas.
