TEHRAN (ISNA)-The Commander of Iran's Navy Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the country would increase naval presence in high seas and long lasting missions.

Sayyari said, “The navy forces’ biggest drill which is to be carried out by March 2012 will cover a larger area comparing to prior naval maneuvers.”

He referred to Iran’s navy situation on identification and confrontation of threats and added, “Currently, our radar systems are working similar to modern systems of the world and our air and surface radars are capable of completing missions the same as radars of the world. Our Sonar’s (Sound Navigation and Ranging) capability can also compete with the newest ones all around the world.”

He added, "We produce different kinds of ammunition and weapons inside the country on our own.”

He noted, “All our navy units enjoy the required capabilities and are equipped well and today most of our surface crafts, war ships and vessels are equipped with systems carrying helicopters.”

“There are many cross-regional forces in the country’s southern waters, but they have not entered Iran’s territorial waters neither in Persian Gulf nor in Oman Sea. We patrol and observe the area regularly and our radar and wiretapping systems control the region. We monitor the sea borders watchfully. Our patrol units will warn the cross regional vessels, if they cross into our waters and call for them to leave,” Sayyari told ISNA.
