TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian home-built destroyer "Jamaran" started the first long-term naval mission heading to high seas and the Gulf of Aden from southern Iranian Bandar-Abbas Port. "Jamaran destroyer is the first destroyer built by Iranian navy domestically. It possesses the same complicated design of warships manufactured in other countries," said Iranian Navy Commander Admiral Habibollah Sayyari Sunday.
He continued Iranian Navy would be present in Atlantic Ocean. "We do not seek aggression and assault, but we will be present in high seas and this is our right based on international rules."
Iran's 16th fleet of warships, which include domestically-built Jamaran destroyer and the Bandar Abbas frigate, left for the Gulf of Aden in line with efforts to provide security for Iranian trade vessels.
The 1,420-ton destroyer is equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities. It has a top speed of up to 30 knots and has a helipad. It also features highly advanced anti- aircraft, anti-surface and anti-subsurface systems and is equipped with torpedoes.
Jamaran is a 94-meter-long domestically made guided-missile destroyer equipped with torpedoes and is capable of engaging in surface, air, and undersea warfare.
