Bandar Abbas, Oct 9, IRNA -- Commander of Iran’s Navy Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Sunday that under the decree of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revoltion, Iran's navy force is to play an active role in open seas.
The Iranian navy commander made the remarks in a special ceremony to launch Iran’s ‘Jamaran’ warship heading to the waters of Gulf of Aden Sunday morning.
He added that the Iranian warship was sent to the waters of North Indian Ocean to hoist the flag of the Islamic Iran in the region along with other 20-25 of world states that are present there.
Jamaran is a 94-meter-long domestically made guided-missile destroyer equipped with torpedoes and is capable of engaging in surface, air, and undersea warfare.
Open seas belong to all nations and based on international conventions all countries could have a presence there.
Some 25 countries are now playing active roles in the waters of Gulf of Aden and to the same reason the Islamic Republic of Iran is to help maintain the security of the oil tankers as well as merchant ships passing through this corridor, he said.
World public opinion should know that Iran is not to violate the legitimate rights of any country but is to play an active role in open seas for good, said the commander of the Iranian navy force.
The global arrogance and the West are intolerable in dealing with Iran’s significant success and development and to the same reason try to make hue and cry on the country’s achievements, he said.
On Iran’s peaceful nuclear programs, they have adopted the same stand to ruin the country’s prestige with the global public opinions, he said.
