TEHRAN (ISNA)-Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohammad Ali Jafari said the country would thwart any threat posed by enemies "with complete vigilance."

He referred to moves of terrorist groups linked to Arrogant powers and are carrying out terrorist activities in northwestern Iran and warned, "The IRGC would thwart any threat against territorial integrity and Islamic values with full vigilance."

Jafari also added, "Activities of PJAK terrorist group is the outcome of failure of colonialist powers' doctrines."

The Ground Forces of the IRGC launched new operations against the Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) earlier September.

The new operations came after the terrorist group refused to pull its forces out of Iran's northwestern areas within a one-month period offered to the group by the IRGC.

Members of the PJAK terrorist group -- an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) -- regularly are involved in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the country's western borders with Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.

Iran has recently deployed 5,000 military forces in northwest of the country, along its common border with the Iraqi Kurdistan region, to fight counterrevolutionary groups.
