Salehi, Ashton meet at United Nations HQ

New York, Sept 22, IRNA -- Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi conferred with EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton on the sidelines of the 66th UN General Assembly meeting in New York on Thursday.
Salehi and Ashton discussed the latest political developments in the Middle East and also Iran’s nuclear issue.
“Islamic Republic of Iran and the European Union can supplement each other and discuss different issues of mutual interest,” Salehi said while referring to the potentials of Iran-EU cooperation.
Referring to Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he said that many developments, including Iran’s cooperation with IAEA have taken place in the world since Ashton’s last visit to Iran.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton for her part said that EU and Iran have many issues to discuss such as establishing rational relations with Iran.
“I hope that we could eventually resolve issues by stepping in the right path,” Ashton said while emphasizing on resolving Iran’s nuclear issues through diplomatic means.
EU foreign policy chief also noted that she will reply to a letter by Iran’s Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili.
