Deputy defense minister: Iranian territory cleared of PJAK terrorists

Tehran, Sept 22, IRNA -- Deputy Defense Minister for Political Affairs Naser Dehqan said the Iranian territory was cleared of members of the Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) terrorist group.
Addressing a group of Basij (volunteer forces) commanders in Amol, Mazandaran province in north of the country on Thursday, Dehqan underlined that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) forces have cleared all mountainous border areas and border zero points of the members of PJAK terrorist group by carrying out numerous operations in the past two days.
He said all Pejak terrorists have pulled backed from the Iranian border areas and fled to neighboring countries.
Dehqan also expressed hope that the neighboring countries took necessary measures in this respect.
Praising the Iraqi Kurdistan region’s endeavors in combating PJAK terrorist group, he said it government also seeks disarmament of the terrorist group and ban on any kind of military operations by it.
PJAK is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is known as a terrorist group by much of the international community. PKK has been fighting the Turkish government since 1984 for an independent state in southeastern Turkey.
Both terrorist organizations are stationed in the mountainous border areas in the Iraqi Kurdistan region in northern Iraq.
