Detained Americans in Iran to be freed on $500,000 bail each
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sept 13, IRNA -- The lawyer of two US detainees told IRNA on Tuesday that the Bench 36 of the Revolutionary Court had ruled that the two detainees can be freed on a $500,000 bail each.
Maso’ud Jafari said the court reconsidered the case of the two Americans detained on charges of illegally entering Iran and espionage and issued a new verdict.
“I have reported the case to the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, so the court will order their freedom upon receiving a response from the embassy,' he added.
Three Americans-- Sarah Shourd, Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer -- were arrested in 2009 as they entered illegally into Iranian territory in Kurdestan province.
Shourd was released on bail in September 2010 and returned to the US but did not attend the court hearing held later on.
The two remaining US citizens were sentenced to eight years in prison each on charges of 'illegal entry' and 'espionage' but now they can be freed upon paying the said amount of bail.
