TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran said it hails Russian step-by-step approach since its shows the country's goodwill.

"We welcome Russian phased proposal since it shows the country's goodwill. Russia is trying to play an influential and effective role in countries' cooperation to use nuclear know-how," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Sunday.

"Details of the suggestion are under discussion and the two countries are continuing consultations," the spokesman added.

Meanwhile as to developments in Syria, he said, "events in Syria show that the move is not a popular demand and armed groups have entered the country, killed people and murdered 1200 police forces. Common people cannot do such acts."

He also called for peaceful settlement of Syrian developments between government and nation.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman also rejected reports on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's private visit to Iran and said, "We have not received such news yet."

The plan proposed by Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov last November and resubmitted in July this year, calls for a step-by-step approach to resolving Iranian nuclear issue. The offer reiterates that Iran should be rewarded for every step it takes to clarify questions about its nuclear program posed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
