Bushehr plant will fully join nat’l power gird by year end

Bushehr, Sept. 12, IRNA -- Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant would entirely join the national power grid by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2012), a top Iranian nuclear official said on Monday.
Deputy Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) made the remarks during the ceremony marking the preliminary commissioning of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Bushehr Province.
Referring to the importance of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant’s safety and the current nuclear crisis in Japan, Mohammad Ahmadian underlined, “We have decided to take the future steps with patience and pay due attention to safety measures.”
The ceremony, marking the preliminary commissioning of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, was held in presence of several high-ranking Iranian and Russian officials in Bushehr Province on Monday .
Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi, Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Fereydoon Abbasi, Energy Minister Majid Namjoo, visiting Russian Energy Minister Sergey Shmatko and Head of the Rosatom Nuclear Agency Sergey Kirienko were present in the ceremony.
The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant joined the national power grid, with a capacity of around 60 megawatts, at 11:29 p.m. (1859 GMT) Saturday night.
The connection of the plant in southern Iran to the national electricity grid is aimed at preparing the ground for its initial commissioning.
