TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian ambassador to the UN Mohammad Khazaei called for total ban on nuclear tests.
He also urged rejecting all nuclear tests including those carried out through computer-generated stimulations.
Speaking in the UN General Assembly informal session on Friday, Khazaei said, "Tehran calls for the international community to reject nuclear tests entirely. Absolute guarantee of banning nuclear weapons means complete annihilation of the weapons."
He added, "all nuclear countries should abide by their commitments on nuclear disarmament for the goal."
The diplomat reiterated that Iran believes the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) is a step toward nuclear disarmament and but the treaty cannot substitute total ban on nuclear weapons."
"Nuclear disarmament should be put on the agenda of the international community and nuclear tests should be prohibited, including computer generated simulations," the Iranian diplomat added.
Also ambassadors of Russia and other countries to the UN present at the meeting pushed for the ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
The West accuses Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, but the country insists it needs nuclear power solely for civilian purposes.
