Tehran, Sep 3, IRNA -- IRGC forces killed or injured 30 members of PEJAK terrorist group in the latest rounds of operations which began on Friday afternoon, a senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said.
Colonel Hamid Ahmad made the remarks in an interview with IRNA.
“The major operation against PEJAK agents in the Northwest borders will continue until the purification of the region from terrorists”, the IRGC spokesman said.
While referring to the end of one-month deadline and the operation of IRGC engineering groups in the border region, the IRGC official reported the killing of two native Kurdish guards who protected the engineering operation by the PEJAK agents.
Pointing to the breaking of ceasefire by PEJAK, Colonel Hamidi expressed IRGC all-time readiness to operate against terrorist groups, aiming to protect borders and civilian population.
In July, the IRGC arrested several teams of PJAK who intended to infiltrate Iran to stage terrorist operations in the country.
Iran also deployed about 5,000 military forces in the Northwestern parts of the country along its joint border with the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
During the operations, the IRGC forces killed, injured and arrested tens of terrorists and destroyed their headquarters in the bordering areas of Alvatan near Sardasht city in Northwestern Iran.
PJAK, a terrorist group with bases in the mountainous regions of Northern Iraq, has been carrying out numerous attacks in Western Iran, Southern Turkey and the Northeastern parts of Syria where the Kurdish population live.
Iranian intelligence and security officials have repeatedly complained that Washington provides military support and logistical aids for the anti-Iran terrorist group.
