Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA -- Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Director said on Monday that IAEA team led by deputy director-general of the nuclear agency Herman Nackaerts visited Fordo nuclear site and Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility for five days.
He told IRNA that the agency is regularly monitoring all Iranian nuclear sites by the cameras installed at the nuclear sites sending satellite pictures to the Vienna-based UN agency.
Asked by IRNA about speculation about shutdown of Natanz enrichment facility, he said that the site will be modernized.
“The recent visit of deputy head of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Safeguards Department Herman Nackaerts to Iran came following talks between me and IAEA's Director General Yukiya Amano,” he said.
Abbasi underlined that Nackaerts and his deputies have visited Iran's nuclear sites during their five-day stay.
“Throughout the visit, the IAEA delegation toured nuclear sites in Isfahan, including the nuclear fuel rods production factory, as well as the heavy water research reactor in Arak and the city's heavy water production plant, Bushehr nuclear power plant and the enrichment facilities in Natanz and Fordo,” he said.
He added the visit of Nackaerts and his deputies has paved the way for more negotiations between Iran and IAEA.
'IAEA should ask its questions officially. Otherwise we could not respond.”
Iran and the IAEA signed a Modality Plan in 2007 to resolve the outstanding issues pertaining to Iranian nuclear program.
Iran undertook to respond to the agency's questions about Iranian nuclear activities and did so in line with the Modality Plan.
Former IAEA director-general Mohamed ElBaradei verified non-diversion of Iranian nuclear program from civilian path in 2009 after Iran provided answers to eight outstanding issues listed in the Modality Plan within specified period.
Abbasi said that the IAEA current administration is expected to consider the process of resolving the outstanding issues in the context of the Modality Plan taken place due course so far.
