TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iran launched the first domestically-run carbon fiber production line on Saturday, representing another honor in the record of the country's defense industry.
"We are witnessing success of another strategic project by Iranian Ministry of Defense," Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi told reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony.
"Iran joined the ten countries holding the technology of carbon fiber. Phases of the project including fundamental studies, basic and detail designs of hardware, building and installing machineries and equipment and running the production line were all conducted by Iranian engineers," he added.
The minister continued production of carbon fiber in Iran -- used in production of advanced and smart defense systems -- has faced challenges and that high-tech and the product are both in the list of embargoed goods."
Vahidi noted the strategic product can be used in building Nozzle heat shield, lightweight composite body of missile motor and wings and body of military and civil planes.
Carbon fibers will be also employed in construction of oil and gas platform, airplane and brakes for trains.
He noted that Iran achieved to establish a carbon fiber line in the country despite sanctions and this achievement indicates that Iran has no problem in reaching new technology.
