Moscow, Aug 17, IRNA -- Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, hoped that talks on Iran’s nuclear programs will resume in near future.
Addressing a press conference with his Iranian counterpart Ali-Akbar Salehi on Wednesday, he described the talks with Salehi as 'constructive' and said that bilateral ties and regional developments were discussed during the meeting.
Iran’s nuclear program topped the talks, he said, contending that diplomatic means are the only solution to its nuclear issue.
Lavrov also noted that all the ambiguities surrounding peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program should be removed.
He also said that he has briefed Salehi on his step-by-step plan which has been approved by the 5+1 Group.
The Iranian side showed much interest in the plan and agreed to launch cooperation in this respect, he noted.
Referring to talks on commercial cooperation, Lavrov said that the Iran-Russia economic and commercial collaboration is of an increasing trend.
Among the other issues discussed during the meeting were drug smuggling, terrorism, he said, noting that the two sides exchanged views in the fields.
He also hailed Iran’s measures in countering drug transit from Afghanistan.
Commenting on the issues of the Caspian Sea, he also said, “The Caspian Sea legal regime has not yet been approved but I am glad to see the five littoral states have closer stances regarding the issue.”
Iran and Russia are interested in a stable and glorious Caspian Sea so that regional countries will be able to cooperate freely, he said.
As to the Bushehr nuclear power plant, he said the date for commissioning the plant is not yet certain.
Pointing to the significance of the plant’s safety, he also said that all the equipment are currently being tested.
