TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian Navy saved a domestic container vessel dubbed "Hadith" and attacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden.

The hit-back from Iranian Navy came in four phases as the ship moving from the Red Sea toward the Gulf of Aden was raided by the pirates. Iranian Navy opened fire on the pirates, making them flee the area.

Gulf of Aden connecting Indian Ocean to the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea, is the major path for marine exchange between Asia and America and Europe.

20,000 merchant ships and oil tankers pass the channel annually which paved the way for terrorist acts of Somali pirates.

Iranian Navy has dispatched 15 flotillas to high seas and international waters of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since 2008 independently to battle piracy.

The flotillas have overcome 19 piracy attacks since mid March, saving millions of dollars of national wealth.
