TEHRAN (ISNA)-A delegation of Egyptian elites, thinkers, religious clerics and revolutionary activists are in Tehran for talks with Iranian authorities.
The delegation arrived in Tehran on Monday night is scheduled to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Tuesday.
The Egyptians are to hold talks with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Head Ezzatollah Zarghami.
The delegation which is going to visit some historic and cultural sites in Iran would wrap up its three-day visit on Friday.
Also Salehi said on Tuesday that Iran and Egypt would resume relations after restrictions are lifted.
"We are optimistic on relations with Egypt and I think ties would be resumed after limitations in Egypt are lifted," Salehi said adding, "we hope grounds would be set for reestablishment of mutual ties after Egypt's elections."
"We are in contact with Egypt directly and indirectly. We had talks with Egyptian foreign minister in Oman. We also exchanged messages through the Head of Iranian Interests Section in Cairo," Salehi noted.
"Iran and Egypt are two important pillars in the Islamic World and the region," Iranian Chief Diplomat added.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Egyptian counterpart Nabil al-Arabi met on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting in Bali, Indonesia.
Iran severed diplomatic relations with Egypt in 1980 in protest at Cairo's peace treaty with Zionist regime signed a year earlier, and the two states maintain only interests sections in each other's capitals.
But the two Muslim countries have signaled they plan to mend ties in the wake of the February 11 fall of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak's regime.
