TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Tuesday the country's Bushehr nuclear plant has been started up.
"Bushehr nuclear facility is one of the safest ones in the world, it has entered the critical phase and in other words, it has been started up," he told reporters.
"Now, we are waiting for vapors to enter turbines and the process takes 1-2 months," he said adding, "the power plant gains some 40 percent of its power after the phase."
He had already said in September that launch of Bushehr nuclear plant since fuel transfer carried out in September would take 9-12 months.
"Safety of Bushehr is the most important priority for Iran," he said adding, "the delay in the launch and operation of the nuclear facility is not that much important."
He assured that Bushehr nuclear plant is one of the safest ones in the world.
Also regarding withdrawal of the US forces from two provinces of Iraq, he said, "Americans should leave Iraq by the end of 2011 based on Baghdad-Washington security pact."
