Ahmadinejad says Iran able to build power plants easily

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday the country is able to build power plants easily.

"Our country holds massive capability for energy production. Since we enjoy vast oil and gas sources and we have renewable solar energy in some industry sector of the country and our domestic labor can build power plant and it is a piece of cakefor them," he said in the Iranian central city of Yazd.

"We can be turned into the main electricity provider in the region. Although, now we are power exporter," he continued.

Iran has already decided that it wants to build ten more power plants to meet its domestic needs for power generation.

Iranian engineers have found appropriate locations for the power plants and are working on research phases of the projects.

Iran's 1,000 megawatts Bushehr power plant will partly meet needs of the country if joins the national grid.

Iran is under three sets of the UN Security Council sanctions over its refusal to meet peaceful nuclear work.

The West accuses Iran of building nuclear weapons, Iran denies the allegation and insists that its enrichment work only aims at peaceful purposes.
