TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the country's nuclear facilities are in the highest level of safety.

"Earthquake is likely to come in all parts of the world. Can you guarantee that Europe will never experience earthquake? Nuclear installations of the Islamic Republic of Iran are in the highest level of safety and they continue to work. All countries should work on high safety and security of nuclear sites and we pursue the issue seriously."

"We will consider dismantling our nuclear facilities if the US and Europe dismantle their nuclear power plants," he said when asked whether Iran would shut down its nuclear installations as some countries decided to do so following Japan's earthquake.

"Can you name some of the countries? Is the US included in the list of the countries?" he asked.

Mehmanparast speaking to reporters during his trip to Cuba, criticized the US dual-track approach toward some countries and said, "Americans and their media raise concerns about human rights merely in certain countries and they remain silent on fate of people in Bahrain and Yemen."

"The US officials used to support dictatorial rulers of Tunisia and Egypt until the final minutes that they were in power, whereas people were calling for their ouster, but they shifted their approach as soon as the rulers were removed from power by their own nations."

He also criticized the US military interference in Libya and said, "they claimed that they arrived in Libya to help people, but many civilians were killed by NATO bombings."

He then raised doubts over the US and NATO intentions in military operations in Libya and said, "their aim is not likely to save Libyans but to target oil wells in the country and keep contracts with oil companies of the country."

Elsewhere, regarding Syria, he said," we believe that Syrian officials are capable enough to settle their own problems. We do not back violence against people in any country."
