Foreign Minister criticizes west's reaction to Iran's nuclear activities

Tehran, Feb 26, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, in meeting with a Japanes senior diplomat, criticized western countries behavior towrds Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.

According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department on Saturday, visiting Japanese deputy Foreign Minister Bashou met with Ali Akbar Salehi here.

In the meeting, Salehi expressed pleasure with good and constructive relations between the two countries and expressed hope that the ties can deepen and expand.

Salehi, by expounding on Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, criticized western countries behavior in this issue and said that western states have ignored Iran's positive and constructive cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), while, with the Zionist regime, which owns nuclear weapons and accepts no obligation before Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), behave differently.

He added that Iran has always declared that is ready for negotiations with Group 5+1 to solve the problems.

Concerning recent developments in Islamic countries, Salehi said Iran believes the developments are in direction of regional nations' interests and that Islamic nations are taking steps toward achieving their own people's rights.

About relations between Iran and the USA, Salehi said, 'US behavior is full of contradictions and they are not honest in their words and behavior; if US really wants to hold talks with Iran, it should basically change its behavior towards Iran.'

The Japanese senior diplomat, for his part, conveyed Japan's prime minister message and said his country intends to develop and consolidate relations with Iran and expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries in different political, economic and cultural fields continue.

Referring to Iran's right to use peaceful nuclear energy, the deputy foreign minister said that his country is the sole country which has experienced devastating effects of nuclear weapon, so all Japanese want disarmament and Tokyo is very serious in this concern.
