Jalili: Terrorists implementing UN Security Council resolutions

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Istanbul, Jan 22, IRNA -- Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said on Saturday that it is a big scandal that terrorists are implementing the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton in Istanbul, the Iranian official made the remark in reaction to the anti-Iran allegations made by the former UK prime minister in his testimony to British inquiry into the war in Iraq.

“Mr. Blair can speak about these things when his trial at the UK inquiry into the war in Iraq comes to an end,” Jalili said.

He noted that no resolution was issued by the United Nations Security Council for those who violated the rights of other nations and killed hundreds of thousands of people in self-proclaimed wars.

“Why should Mr. Blair be only tried by the British judiciary. They attacked Iraq without permission of the UN Security Council and none of the international courts inquires them why?,” Jalili asked in reference to the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice.

He pointed out that even if Mr. Blair were inquired about genocide, the big power would veto it in the UN Security Council.

“We have emphasized during our negotiations with G5+1 that international relations should be based on justice and mutual respect for the rights of the nations,” Jalili added.

During a testimony in UK Inquiry underway in London about sacrificing the British interests in Iraq war by following the US lead by the former prime minister Tony Blair, the defendant singled out Iran as “looming and coming challenge”.

The prosecutor interrupted Mr. Blair and demanded him to respond to the questions about getting the UK engaged in Iraq war in absence of the United Nations Security Council resolution.
