Iran will never overlook NPT right to enrich uranium: Jalili

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Berlin, Jan 15, IRNA -- Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said the Islamic Republic of Iran would never waiver its right to enrich uranium, the Hamburg-based weekly news magazine Der Spiegel said in a report to hit the newsstands Sunday.

'It's a fundamental right which we will never renounce,' said Jaili.

The top Iranian official reaffirmed that the issue of uranium enrichment would not be discussed at the G5 plus 1 (US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany) talks in Istanbul on January 21 and 22.

He emphasized again Iran wants to master nuclear technology to ensure its economic independence.

Jalili pointed to his country's 'great successes' in the area of nuclear research.

Meanwhile, Jalili highlighted also Iran's mistrust of the West.

On the question of a military attack on Iran's nuclear installations, Jalili said anyone trying such an assault would make a severe miscalculation.

Jalili hailed the alertness of Iranian security forces after uncovering and destroying a network of Zionist spies which was involved in the murders of Iranian nuclear scientists.

He made clear that the Islamic Republic was more stable than anytime before.

Whenever the enemy sees no way out, he resorts to terror means. That's not a sign of strength but weakness, Jalili said.
