Geneva, Dec 6, IRNA -- Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov on Monday expressed hope that his country could remove the obstacles between the G5 plus 1 (US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany) and Iran during their ongoing meeting in Geneva, according to IRNA.
Ryabkov who met with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, said the Geneva meeting - the first of its kind in over a year - was necessary.
Meanwhile, Jalil who was seated next to a picture of martyred Iranian nuclear scientist Majid Shahryari, hailed the positive developments in Russian-Iranian relations, citing the recent Caspian Sea summit and the latest meeting of the presidents of Iran and Russia.
Jalili reiterated there was more potential to expand bilateral ties.
Iran's top National Security Council official was also expected to meet separately later in the day with members of the Chinese delegation at the G5 plus 1 talks.
