Envoy stresses peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities

Vienna, Nov 24, IRNA, -- Iran’s permanent representative to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ali Asghar Soltanieh, once again, stressed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities.
Speaking to IRNA, after the release of IAEA’s Director General Yukiya Amano’s report on Tuesday, Soltanieh said,” According to this report, all nuclear activities of Iran, including the enrichment activities, have been done under IAEA’s inspections and no deviation, such as military objectives, has been observed.”
“This report shows that certain media reports in the west that alleged enrichment activities in Iran have faced technical problems have been baseless.”
“It also shows that hostile measures by certain espionage and terrorist organizations in a western country aiming to create problems for Iran have failed and peaceful activities have continued,” Soltanieh said.
He said IAEA is expected to present its reports more balanced, technical and specialized and make a complete distinction between compulsory measures and voluntary ones.
He emphasized that implementation of NPT’s Additional Protocol is not mandatory and demanding Iran to implement it is not legal.
Soltanieh noted that Iran implemented Additional Protocol for two and a half years, ‘but later, when certain western countries took Iran’s nuclear issue to the UN Security Council, Iranian parliament ordered voluntary implementation of the protocol to be stopped’.
“However, the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to the NPT and the Director General’s report proves this,” concluded Soltanieh.
