EU ready to begin Iran talks on December 5: Ashton
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Nov 13, IRNA -- Talks between Iran and so-called '5+1' group is due to start on December 5, German press agency DPA cited a spokesman for European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton as saying Friday.
'She has responded to the Iranian authorities today (Friday) and has agreed to their proposal to begin talks on December 5,' the EU official said.
The spokesperson did not specify where the venue of the talks would be though.
Ashton is negotiating on behalf of Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States and Germany.
The top EU diplomat proposed earlier holding talks in Vienna on November 15-17.
While the western powers want the talks to focus on the nuclear program, Iran insists that its program is non-negotiable and says that the talks should focus on regional peace and disarmament issues, specifically the Zionist regime's nuclear weapons program.
Tehran had complained that Ashton was being less committed to the talks with Iran than her predecessor Javier Solana.
