Iran: G5+1 must prove good will in upcoming talks

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

United Nations, Nov 9, IRNA -- Ambassador and deputy permanent UN representative of Iran said at UN General Assembly Monday G5+1 must prove good will to Iranian side during upcoming negotiations.

According to IRNA, Es’haq Ale-Habib who was reflecting on the annual report of the IAEA to the General Assembly regarding various countries nuclear activities reiterated, “Iran has always been ready for holding talks based on justice and mutual respect, just like the recent welcome by Iran for the west’s suggestion to resume talks.

The deputy Iranian ambassador at UN headquarters added, “Iran in a letter announced its readiness for resuming talks in accordance with the contents of the letter forwarded by the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Sa’eid Jalili to the EU Foreign Policy Coordinator Catherine Ashton.”

He added, “It is now turn for the other side to prove its good will for holding a serious and successful negotiation.”

He added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is resolute in defending its national right to be benefited from peaceful nuclear energy and while respecting its international commitments, would keep on spending efforts aimed at taking advantage of that energy source for fully peaceful purposes.

He emphasized that the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program has been states in various IAEA reports, adding, “Presentation of minute details in the latest IAEA report on Iran proves that Iran is fully cooperating with the agency.”

Criticizing the agency secretary general’s negative remarks on Iran’s fully peaceful program, Ale-Habib highlighted the really perilous threat of proliferation of the nuclear weapons, arguing, “The covert nuclear activities of the Zionist regime, which are backed by the United States and its allies, have seriously put at stake the regional and international peace and security.”

He added, “Such activities have also defeated the efforts aimed at declaring the Middle East as a nuclear weapons free zone drastically.”

Ale-Habib reiterate, “That is while 189 member countries of the NPT last year asked the Zionist regime to join that pact and to permit the IAEA inspectors to visit its nuclear facilities.”

He also stressed that the agency is in accordance with its letter of association urged to help to expand the peaceful usage of nuclear energy, assist in transfer of related technology to developing countries, try to urge to non members of the NPT to join that important pact, and the member states to heed their responsibilities regarding the reduction of their nuclear warheads in accordance with the long delayed time schedule.

In line with the US and Israeli biased anti-Iranian stands and faded politicizing of the highly technical, resolved issue of the Iranian peaceful nuclear program, the UN nuclear watchdog chief Yukiya Amano told the General Assembly that the Islamic Republic had failed to provide the required cooperation to confirm that all the country’s nuclear material was for peaceful purposes.
