Mottaki: Final negotiations over context of talks with 5+1 continue

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tbilisi, Nov 4, IRNA -- IRI Foreign Minister said here Wednesday final negotiations on context of talks with 5+1 Group still continue and the matter is more important for us than time of the talks.

According to IRNA correspondent, Manouchehr Mottaki made the comment Wednesday evening in a meeting with his Georgian counterpart and host Grigol Vashadze, adding, “The other side has proposed November 15th for resuming the talks, while we had earlier proposed November the 10th.”

He reiterated, “Also other places than Geneva for holding the negotiations have been proposed, such as Vienna and Istanbul, but that has not been finalized yet, either.”

The Georgian Foreign Minister, too, said that he was “grateful to the Iranian people and the Iranian government for their position about Georgia’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity.”

On Iran’s nuclear program Vashadze said that Iran had a right to have a peaceful nuclear program, but it also had obligations.

“Iran is a member state of the non-proliferation treaty and has all legal rights to have a peaceful nuclear program and while having those rights there are obligations too for each and every member state when it comes to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and under those procedures and norms all nuclear facilities, not only in this region, but elsewhere in the world should be under firm control of this Agency,” Vashadze said.

He said Tbilisi was “absolutely happy” about the proposed talks between G5-plus-1 and Iran, because “it will be good for Iran, for the international community, for the IAEA and for this region too.”

G5-plus-1 refers to five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Britain, China, France, Russia, the US – plus Germany
