IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Baku, Oct 13, IRNA -- Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, at the end of his 2-day visit to Azerbaijan Republic on Tuesday afternoon, described his visit 'successful'.

In a press conference, General Vahidi, answering a question concerning results of his talks with Azeri officials, by referring to growing trend of economic and political cooperation between the two countries, said that Iran and Azerbaijan Republic had agreements in the field of defensive cooperation and in his visit he talked about developing mutual ties and the discussion had good results.

Concerning cooperation in the field of military industry, the general said that both countries have good potentials in this concern.

Replying to a question concerning security issues in the Caspian Sea, Vahidi said, 'We consider the Caspian Sea as a sea of peace and friendship and we believe that the sea should stay in a non-military status.'

He described Iran’s relations with all Caspian Sea littoral states 'very good'.

About possibilities of cooperation in a joint military exercise in the Caspian Sea, he answered that such possibilities exist in the framework of all Caspian Sea littoral states and also in bilateral form and considering holding a meeting to examine security cooperation of littoral states in different fields of fight against terrorism, drug smuggling and other issues, Iran does not have any objection to holding such joint military exercises.

About the Zionist regime purchases of new US fighters and arms, the general answered that the Zionist regime problems would not be solved through buying such arms, because the regime has problems in its own nature which come from its illegitimacy.

He added that this is just a propaganda to give morale to the regime to cover its defeats in two 22-and-33 day wars.

Referring to the aggressive nature of the Zionist regime, Vahidi said that the US officials should explain to the world public opinion about selling these arms.

Iran’s defense minister, replying to a question concerning negative propaganda about Iran’s achievements in the field of defensive industry as a threat to its neighbors, said that we have always declared that we are ready to lend our technology to our Muslim neighbors and we consider ourselves as a defender of the region security.

Referring to Karabakh dispute, Brigadier General Vahidi noted the inefficiency of 'Minsk Group” after 18 years of activity to solve the dispute and added that some other forces do not want the crisis to be settled, because with continuation of the crisis, they can find an excuse for being in the area.

He underlined that Iran has always wanted a solution for the conflict upon justice and upon international laws and by maintaining the Azerbaijan Republic sovereignty.

About some claims related to the effects of the Virus “ Stocks-net” on Iran’s nuclear program, he said that related officials in Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization have denied the issue and continued that the issue is cyberterrorism, which is expected by hegemonic countries, but we do not have any problems in this concern and our officials have taken necessary precautions on the issue.

Referring to importance of security in the Caucasus region, Vahidi said that the existing potentials in the region have created hope for development in this area, but hegemonic powers do not want development of these countries, so they try in different ways to create crises in the region or to manipulate existing crises to prevent them from being solved.

General Vahidi paid a 2-day visit to Azerbaijan Republic upon invitation of his Azeri counterpart.

During his stay, Vahidi conferred with President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Defense Minister General Safar Abiyev and Minister of Defense Industry Yaver Jamalov and also visited several military equipment production factories.
