Mehmanparast advises Russia not to join US game
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sept 28, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast advised Russia not to join the US game.
He made the remarks during his weekly press briefing in reaction to Russia’s decision to annul agreements to provide S/300 missiles to Iran.
He said Iran and Russia have already signed a contract the content of which is quite transparent so the two countries will have to stay committed to it and act based on it.
He said Russia will have no long-term interests in entering the game led by the US.
He said this was Iran’s sincere advice to other neighboring countries as well.
In answering to a question whether Iran follows up Russia’s decision through legal and judicial channels, the spokesman said Tehran has already made its official stand on the issue known to all.
However, he added, the thing to note is that Russia’s measure is based on Resolution 1929 which is both illegal and unfair.
Secondly, he added, the resolution does not include defensive weapons like S/300.
Mehmanparast went on to stress that political pressures on the Iranian nation to force it retreat from its rights will have no results.
Noting that Iran has paid dearly for its independence, he said the Sacred Defense Week which the Iranian nation is going through presently is a good reminiscent of the bravery and resistance of the Iranian nation during the years of the imposed war which was waged by the Western and Eastern powers.
