Iran assesses US president's statements as unmeasured
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sept 25, IRNA -- A senior Foreign Ministry official said Saturday that the latest remarks of the US president about Iran's proposal at the UN General Assembly session was 'unmeasured.'
Spokesman of the Ministry Ramin Mehman-Parast told IRNA that President Mahoud Ahmadinejad's proposal for setting up a committee to probe into the 9/11 terrorist attacks has concerned US officials driving them to show a reaction which has astonished everyone.
Addressing the UN 65th General Assembly meeting last Thursday, President Ahmadinjad proposed an inquiry into the 9/11 event by a fact-finding committee.
'This is not clear why US officials are angry with President Ahmadinejad's proposal for establishing a fact-finding committee and this has astonished scholars and thinkers,' Mehman-Parast told IRNA.
Any development which could affect international approaches and lead to making major decisions should normally be examined with scrutiny, said the spokesman.
He stressed that world public opinion has expected the US officials to have a good reason for their military expedition into Afghanistan and Iraq which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
The fact that there are evidences by some think-tanks that the 9/11 events and the reasons behind that were covered under a cloud of serious suspicions, has indicated the need for carrying out a more serious investigation over the issue, Mehman-Parast said.
He stressed that discovering the real causes of the event would quench the thirst of the world public opinion.
