Iran strongly criticizes IAEA director general for unfair report

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Vienna, Sept 15, IRNA -- Iran on Wednesday strongly criticized Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano for unfair report on Iran copying Resolution 1929.

In his statement to Board of Governors, Iranian Ambassador to International Atomic Energy Agency Ali Asghar Soltanieh said that the agency is echoing unfounded allegations made by Iranian adversaries for political reasons which cost huge financial damage to Iran.

He said that Iran reserves the right to take legal action against the agency which inflicted heavy losses on Iran by echoing unsubstantiated allegations over Iranian nuclear program.

He said that the director general has mixed up the Safeguards Agreement of Non-Proliferation Treaty with Additional Protocol to NPT and he must consider that the Additional Protocol is voluntarily accepted by the member states and that the IAEA mandate concerns the Safeguards Agreement to NPT.

Soltanieh said that Mr. Amano has said in his report that Iran refused the agency’s inspectors whereas 150 inspectors have carried out their job for several hundred hours and 10 inspectors are always in Iran to do their job.

“Iran had only wanted the agency to replace two inspectors from a list of 150 in line with national sovereignty right.”

He derided the director general for composing his technical report on Iran by copying Resolution 1929 of the United Nations which has been drawn up by Iranian adversaries.
