Soltanieh: Iran to continue cooperation with IAEA
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 13, IRNA – Iran’s IAEA envoy Ali-Asghar Soltanieh said on Monday that Iran is ready for cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency based on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
“Iran will continue cooperation with the Agency within the frameworks of NPT and considers any demands beyond it such as the UN Security Council resolution as “illegitimate.” That’s because we have proved with legal reasons times and again that the UN Security Council resolutions lack any legal justifications,” Soltanieh told a press conference after the IAEA Chief Yukiya Amano’s speech to the IAEA Board of Governors session on Monday.
Soltanieh dismissed as “completely illogical” Amano’s claims that Iran’s refusal to accept two inspectors had caused problems for the Agency’s inspection and said IAEA could find substitutes for the inspectors out of a list of more than 150 inspectors. Additionally, he added, we have accepted two other inspectors as substitutes.
The Iranian diplomat said that a very important and clear point in all reports of former and present IAEA Directors General is that they asserted that no proof has been found to show that nuclear installations of Iran are military oriented.
“Undoubtedly, such an important point has disappointed the US because despite spending millions of dollars and holding tight contacts, the country has not been able to detect any weak point in Iran's nuclear program. We hope that Amano will remove the major flaws in his upcoming reports.”
Asked on Tehran research reactor fuel, Soltanieh said, “The IAEA was expected to prepare necessary facilities based on its charter.”
He said that in a meeting on July 26, he had officially announced Tehran's readiness for talks based on Tehran Declaration and it is the three other countries than have not yet given any response.
